Valentino Rossi will make his Mount Panorama debut next year when he takes part in the Bathurst 12 Hour.

The seven-time MotoGP world champion may have retired on two wheels but will return to Australia in February on four wheels.

He has been confirmed as a starter for Team WRT and will race in a BMW M4 GT3.

The 43-year-old will be joining forces with endurance specialists Maxime Martin and Augusto Farfus for the event.

“Valentino Rossi is one of the biggest names in the world of motorsport and we’re proud that the Bathurst 12 Hour will be his first experience of Mount Panorama,” event director Shane Rudzis said.

“Having had so much success here on two wheels, Valentino has an enormous Australian fanbase and we are prepared for a significant increase in attention as a result of his entry.

“It’s one of the most significant driver announcements in Bathurst 12 Hour history and we are thankful to BMW, WRT, Valentino and his team for making it happen – and we can’t wait to welcome him to Mount Panorama next February.”

After retiring from MotoGP in 2021 after 26 years of Grand Prix racing, Rossi has remained active on the motorsport scene.

This year, he has been driving for WRT in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint and Endurance Championships.

In a nod to his Hall of Fame motorcycle career, Rossi’s car at Mount Panorama will sport the famous No. 46.

Whilst February will mark the Italian’s first appearance in the 12 Hour, he is unlikely to have any problems adjusting to Australian conditions, having taken out the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island a record eight times.

BMW will also be hoping that Rossi’s experience Down Under will pay dividends, with the team yet to win the race in the current International GT3 era.

The 2023 edition of the Bathurst 12 Hour will take place between February 3-5.
