An ABC radio star has died after suffering a fatal anaphylactic shock.

Sarah Tomlinson, chief of staff for ABC Mildura-Swan Hill in South Australia, was on annual leave when she suddenly fell ill.

Friends have paid emotional tributes to Ms Tomlinson, remembering her as “generous” and “deeply passionate” about her work.

She started broadcasting aged 14 and went on work at Radio Adelaide before hosting Mornings and Regional Drive for ABC South Australia and Broken Hill.

In 2018 she became chief of staff at ABC Mildura-Swan Hill.

ABC journalist Christopher Testa said Ms Tomlinson “had the right joke or pun for any moment” and “loved getting on the tools to film reporters”.

ARN presenter Jennie Lenman said Ms Tomlinson was “calm, rational and kind”.

“She was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met with the best dad jokes. She brought joy wherever she went and had a marvellous ability to connect with people from all walks of life,” she added.

ABC journalist Tyrone Dalton said Ms Tomlinson “loved her craft and loved to share that passion with so many people”.

“You’ll be dearly missed,” he added.

Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek also paid tribute, saying Ms Tomlinson was “hardworking, smart, generous, and deeply passionate about community radio”.

“When I met her, I was struck by her professionalism and her good humour,” Ms Plibersek said.

“Thinking of all who loved her at this very sad time.”
